La ciudad de Salta, capital de la provincia, fue fundada el 16 de abril de 1582 por Hernando de Lerma, gobernador de Tucumán y por orden del Perú, ubicándola en un hermoso y fértil valle que lleva su nombre.
Conocida como ''Salta la linda'', es una de las ciudades argentinas que más ha conservado el acervo arquitectónico colonial.
En su aspecto edilicio se mezclan las construcciones coloniales de paredes blancas, techos de tejados rojos, aljibes, y aspecto señorial; con modernas edificaciones, dentro de una trama urbana que contiene varios espacios verdes entre los que se destaca el Parque San Martín, enlazado por el teleférico con el cerro San Bernardo.
La variedad y belleza paisajística de la zona es espectacular: la grandiosidad de sus montañas, sus valles, sus quebradas, la Puna, y la flora y fauna subtropical preservada en sus parques nacionales, son sólo algunos atractivos. Una de las ventanas de Salta al mundo es el Tren a las Nubes, con su viaje increíble, lleno de emociones, al viaducto ''La Polvorilla'' a 4200 m.s.n.m , quien despierta el interés del turismo nacional e internacional.
Época del año para visitarla:
Cualquier momento es bueno para visitar Salta. De diciembre a marzo, la temperatura promedio es de 20ºC. Junio y julio son los meses más fríos del año con promedio de 13º; el resto de los meses la temperatura promedia los 18ªC. La precipitación anual es de 630 mm y es de régimen estival.
El Aeropuerto Internacional Gral. Martín Miguel de Güemes, se encuentra a 9 Km. del centro de la ciudad.
Consejos Útiles:
Durante los meses de marzo a septiembre, la temperatura diurna es agradable, pero por las noches es necesario abrigarse y que las temperaturas descienden considerablemente; durante los meses de verano, por las noches suele refrescar, por lo que es recomendable traer un abrigo liviano.
Contrate excursiones en agencias o prestadores, alojamientos o alquile autos que estén habilitados y autorizados por el Ministerio de Cultura y Turismo, no lo haga en la calle.
Muchos de los circuitos se transitan por caminos no asfaltados y de montaña; en este caso es importante tener en cuenta que se trata de caminos de cornisas y permiten avanzar en un promedio de 50 Km / H, disfrutando de los paisajes circundantes.
Exija comprobantes de los servicios contratados.
Altas montañas, valles cautivantes, abruptas quebradas, tupidas selvas, ríos turbulentos, lagos inmensos y remotos desiertos presentan interesantes desafíos para quienes practican deportes en contacto con la naturaleza. Con excepción de algunas actividades para las cuales se requiere aptitudes y conocimientos específicos, casi ninguna de ellas requiere de experiencia previa, para poder practicarla; es recomendable contratar a los prestadores y empresas habilitadas por el MInisterio de Turismo y Cultura, ya que cuentan con los seguros corresponidentes.
CABALGATAS: Intensas e inolvidables, son una gran opción. Es una actividad fuerte y trascendente, que pueden realizar hombres y mujeres desde los 6 hasta los 90 años, con buen estado físico.
CANOPY: Aventura y emoción. Volar como un cóndor andino sobre el cañón del río Juramento, una experiencia única que permite contemplar las alturas como sólo esta ave puede hacerlo.
MONTAÑISMO Y TREKKING DE ALTURA: Por su ubicación geográfica y las características diversas y prodigiosas de su territorio, Salta alberga una amplia diversidad de climas y alturas de distintas características, propicias para la práctica del montañismo durante todo el año.
